31% of pet owners consider their pet more important than any of their friends: "It is scientifically proven that a very strong bond is established between people and their pets." For this reason, companion animals play "a role that goes beyond being a pet, since they occupy an emotional position of great importance in the lives of their owners."

In addition, living with an animal has positive effects on people's physical and mental health, and pets are a sentimental pillar for many families.
The graduate will try to answer numerous questions, such as why most people consider their companion animal another member of the family, why it is that people who live with a dog or a cat visit the doctor less and what benefits result from the participation of companion animals in therapies directed to people.

This program, pioneer in Spain, offers, from the perspective of behavioral sciences, a scientific study of the relationships established between human beings and companion animals. The program will be offered starting this January at the UAB campus of the Hospital del Mar in Barcelona, taught by the Department of Psychiatry and Legal Medicine.
